3rd Trimester

Veet or Nair 'down there'?

Um, is veet or nair "safe" to use "down there" while pregnant?

I'm looking on their site... neither says anything about pregnancy... some products say not to use "down there" but I see nair has a bikini zone product... I dunno if they stink as bad as they did years ago, I'm just wondering if there is anything in them thats "bad" to use while pregnant?

I'd think legs would be less of an issues, but using them close to the vag, like can "fumes" or chemicals affect the baby??? Confused

I'm just curious... since it's getting hard to reach these days...  Embarrassed

Re: Veet or Nair 'down there'?

  • IMO I wouldn't use them. Anything designed to dissolve hair cannot anything that is good for a developing fetus.  I have no scientific basis for this opinion.

  • So - I totally had my husband take care of my lady parts.  He had a much better view and the patience for it.  He used his electric razor.  I didn't want to get rid of everything totally, because I don't think I could handle the bumps as the hair grew back, not to mention the itchiness as it was growing back and catching on my underclothes.

  • I personally would stay away from them as well... I get DH to help me out down there as I'm getting bigger.

Yikes, pregnant or not I would not put that stuff anywhere near that sensitive skin! Even if it doesn't bother you to use it on your legs, there's no telling how that more delicate area would react.

  • I would be more concerned of having a chemical burn on such sensitive skin.  I haven't used those types of products in a really long time, and last I remember, you're not supposed to use it "down there".

Thats what I'm thinking...  but when I looked, I couldn't find anything on either site... and the only type of Nair in the house is the men's one (so I doubt they'd tell a guy not to use while pregnant)...

I just don't wanna look like this:

  • Personally, I don't use any of those products because of the chemicals and especially not while pregnant. You don't know what of it can be absorbed through the skin. I wouldn't use it on my legs, and I certainly wouldn't put it on my lady parts. Eek!

I understand about the hard to reach part though. I haven't SEEN my lady bits in quite some time. I have gone from feel but honestly haven't been shaving as often as before because when the stubble comes back it drives me insane. I'm going to have DH help me next time though because its quite the task.

  • DH took care of me too.  I would feel much more comfortable with that than slathering a bunch of Nair down there :)

  • I did it during the first and second trimesters. Now that I can't see, I get waxed.

  • I find those products irritate my skin even when I'm not pregnant.  I've been keeping up my regular wax regimen up and although it doesn't hurt at all, I've gotten way more ingrown hairs during pregnancy than I normally do, so basically it looks terrible regardless.  If it's not something you know how you'll react to, I would skip it.

I think it depends on the product cuz I see nair has Bikini zone ones...

    maybe waxing???

  • Not sure about if you can use them during pregnancy, but if you decide to do it be very careful.  I was putting on some Nair down there fairly quickly, was really sloppy and got Nair in a place one should never get Nair.  It burned for a week after.  It was awful!

yeah I've never ever used it cuz chemicals weird me out when I can typically use a razor... I was just curious since it didn't say anything about pregnancy on either site.... I'm not that ginormous (still) but its harder to see...  Tongue Tied

    Is this stuff FDA-regulated???

  • I used the bikini nair last week with not irritations, but we're all different.  you can't leave it on too long or you will get burned....as I've done in the past.

I don't believe that its FDA-regulated but I'm not 100% sure. I would skip it, especially if you've never used it before. You could have a horrible reaction and on your lady parts no less! Not what you need right now! Eek! When I was younger I used it on my legs and they turned bright red and stung.

A handheld mirror might help make shaving an easier task, or enlist the help of DH. I've also seen several ladies on here say that they've used bikini trimmers to get a close trim to keep things under control without having to completely shave.

I considered getting a wax but since I haven't done that pre-pregnancy I wasn't sure it would be a good idea with all the increased blood flow and what not. Might hurt like heck! :(

  • I don't use it often (mostly for a "nuke" job) but my doctor said it was fine. It's topical and for the short amount of time it's on he said it wouldn't affect anything. It's been about 3 times total.

I use it only for bikini area and not any nooks or crannies. I'll still test an area on my leg to make sure my skin didn't change since the last time I used it. The Veet sensitive works well for me.

oh where do you get bikini trimmers? same section at the store (like Target?)

I think half the time the FDA never steps in til there are actual problems with products like this... I'm just curious if there is any sort of regulation since there wasn't much online by way of warnings (besides the obvious like if you have a rash not to use - DUH!)

the increased blood flow made me wonder about waxing. Tongue Tied

I was wondering this too. I found this info online: https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/hairremoval.htm

Basically says that there are no studies that proved it unsafe, but none that proved it okay either.

I think you can get trimmers at Target and such but I'm not sure because I haven't gone looking for them just yet. I think I'm going to look this weekend. :)

  • I was going to try this and then read on the box you have to "wipe" the solution off before you rinse...ummm yeah that wasn't going to happen considering I can't see; hince why I was looking for something easy to use in the first place. Luckily my DH has been great at "helping me out" with my lady scaping ;o)
  • last time I used veet "down there" i accidentally got some on my more sensitive lady parts and I cried every time I peed for 2 days! It was the worst!!!!
