Hello Ladies!
When you bought nursery furniture, did you buy the items from a specific collection (all at the same store) to be sure that they were the exact same wood color? Or did you buy things at different places to get the best price, and just hope that the different items matched ok?
Re: XP: Furniture Question
I'm really struggling with this right now! We're getting white furniture, and it kills me that I'm going to have to get different brands of cribs and dressers. I know they won't match. Unfortunately, diapers and daycare keep me from caring enough to spend the couple hundred to buy the same stuff.
My husband reminded me that there are already plenty of different shades of white in the room (ceiling, doors, outlets, vents, trim, paint, glider, etc), and it really won't matter. He's right, of course, but in a perfect money-filled world, I'd like to get the same brand.
We got white cribs from BRU, white dressers from Land of Nod, and a white rocker from an online seller, and they look just fine together. Wood stains might be tougher, but do what you need to do.
The way I thought about it, we're going to be spending enough $ with two babies, so I might as well save money wherever I can! ?We mixed wood colors, and I have to be honest, it is SO not a big deal. ?Unless you're one of those people who would notice it every time you walked into the room and wouldn't be able to get over it...but it was worth it to me to save $!
We bought cribs from BRU, changing table at IKEA, bookcase at a garage sale. And they are all "medium" wood colors, and look fine!?
Thanks for your responses.
I've found a collection that I like at JCPenney. The changing table and dresser are the cheapest I've found, however, the cribs are about $100 more than similar cribs at other stores. We need 2 cribs so I think it's best to just get the cheaper cribs even though they might not match exactly.
With having two babies and the double expense of it all I wasn't about going to spent a ton of money on furniture. We got Gulliver cribs from IKEA, crib mattresses from Walmart, used my childhood dresser, bought a leather rocker/recliner, used DH's childhood bookcase that his grandfather made, and got a changing table from craigslist. It's all white, despite the rocker/recliner. I was a bit disappointed to find the cribs to be off white really despite being told they are white, but it's okay and it all looks fine together.
