So, my new vacuum arrived today:) As a test run, I vacuumed our living room and I could not believe how full the canister was when I was done! The last time I vacuumed was last Friday, the tragedy with our previous vacuum (also a Dyson) happened that night. Since then I have swept the carpet to clean it as best as I can.
I mean, I know with 3 kids the carpet can get pretty messy, but I was shocked at what still came up given that our previous vacuum was a Dyson (and their whole Never Lose Suction jazz) and I vacuum all the time.
Anyone else go from one Dyson to the another and experience this? Thinking I'm going to be vacuuming a LOT today ![]()
Re: Um, wow. Dyson-WWYT?
We got ours our first after we finished building our home. OMG, we only have a GSP and hardwood (at that point in time) but MAN, that thing was like MAGIC!!
I
our Dyson Animal =D
I love our Dyson!
That said, ours often looses suction lately.. particularly when you first turn it on, it sounds like it's working but it takes a minute or so to "warm up" and actually kick in...
I wonder if we have a warranty on it?? It was a gift from my ILs when we bought our 1st house 5 years ago... I missed your OP. Did you contact them and they sent you a new one or did you buy a new one?
... and these responses are making me think I really need to vacuum more often

Our previous Dyson took a spill down the stairs and I couldn't catch it in time. It was banged up pretty bad, big crack and all...the suction was totally shot:( We had it for a little over 5 years and it was out of warranty, however I don't think it would have covered a stair mishap (from what I read on the website). I found a new one at an outlet center and we had some gift cards as well so we got it for a pretty good price. So far I love it:)
Have you cleaned the filter? Embarrassingly, I didn't realize where our filter was...I just kept all those little holes cleared out whenever I emptied the canister. It slowly started losing suction.... One day when DH was home he took a look at it, found the filter (it was black
) and cleaned it. The suction came roaring back and was like new again. And then it tumbled down the steps!

oh no! I would be so upset if I had to watch my Dyson tumble down the stairs!!
and um, err... I didn't know there was a filter. You probably just cured my problem! Thanks

I LOVE our Dyson!!!!! We get so much up with it - our old vac wasn't a Dyson so I don't know about one Dyson to another, but from our old vac to this one was amazing (and gross! lol) We have 5 pets so after a couple days doing a big room fills that canister up. Vacuuming is a chore we fight over now - because we both want to do it. There is a lot of immediate gratification in having all that "yuck" to dump.
Yes, they have warranties (look online for what you warranty would be) and, listen up, they have 24 hour phone assistance!!!! REALLY! We once called at 3 am. They are marvelous with helping over the phone. I am disappointed that the "no loss of suction" is a little misleading because we have to pull stuff off the bottom just as or almost as often as with our old vacuum and have lost suction but we called and they talked us through it - we had to disconnect something to pull the blockage out of the tube - back to new
So if you are having a problem - call. They are awesome at helping and we have asked really "dumb" questions like "is there another filter?", "how would I tell where that is" etc. and they don't mind at all.
I love my dyson...which is when we knew we were "old" - when the Dyson became the best birthday/Valentine's Day gifts we ever got. ha ha!
I am coveting your vacuum. I feel old.
And stereotypical.
