Poop Question

DS has/had an upset tummy yesterday, lots of loose, watery poopie diapers.  He's eating and drinking plenty of fluids and i've been doing bananas, rice and applesauce for his meals.  I am also giving him a packet of children's Culturelle in a bottle.  No fever, he's acting fine and is as happy as ever!

He has had more poopie diapers today than normal, but the consistency is better, today is more pasty/oatmeal.  Nowhere near the number of diapers we had yesterday by this time either.

Is this right for getting over an upset tummy?  He's never had a bug before and my pedi's "message service" takes 24-48 hours to return my call, hence why i'm checking with you all in the time being!

Thanks ladies!

Re: Poop Question

  • I'm not sure but it sounds normal to me. Maybe someone else will be more helpful. I just wanted to say...24-48 hours! That is crazy. Do they just expect people to take their children on to the ER when it could be something a simple phone call could fix? Thank goodness my pedi returns calls 2 times a day, usually within an hour or 2.

Yes, they do expect you to just go to the ER.  It's the military healthcare system, not the greatest but it works most of the time.  They used to have an ask a nurse program but they discontinued it for our area.

  • Sounds like you're doing everything right.  Maybe try Pedialyte as well?  The electrolytes might help.  (I think you can also make Pedialyte pretty easily).  And what a PITA with the answering service!  I can always get a nurse on the phone right away.  That sucks!
