Quick science question about twin types

From what I understand, identical twins can be di-di if the zygote splits really early. Is that right? If so, does it follow that a person like me who did IVF,  transferred 5-day embryos, and ended up with di-di twins must be having fraternals?

that's always been my understanding. i think the egg would have to split earlier than day five. but i need to find where i read that...

I just looked it up in Dr Luke's book and it said "within 3 days of conception" you get di-dis. Haven't confirmed this anywhere.

it's fun to speculate on when my egg split. since the boys are mono/tri, that would mean sometime between May 3-7, 2007, which is when i went on trip with some girlfriends.

maybe it was all of the estrogen. or the hot tub. :P

I did the same research. Since ours are di-di and we did a six-day transfer, there's no way they can be identical. I'm pretty sure someone in the lab would have noticed if one had split, LOL!

My RE confirmed this for me yesterday.  Since I had a 5 day transfer and have di/di twins, they are fraternal.
