diaper rash/food allergy question?

I know that citrus and tomato based foods can often cause diaper rash, and yes, we have just introduced tomato sauce to Jackson's diet within the past week and he has had a rash for the past 2 days. Question is, since I'm assuming this is from the tomatoes, would you conclude that he is ALLERGIC to them and stop giving them to him? Is this a dumb question?

Re: diaper rash/food allergy question?

  • Also, I know this is a little TMI, but he has pooped more than often the past 2 days, and 2 of them have actually been hard to get off his toushie-Like I had to RUB it off with a few wipes. Still result of tomatoes you think?

  • My allergist (I have several food allergies so we have discussed DD with him) said that it doesn't necessarily mean it is an allergy but irriates him just as it would us...DD used to get a rash when I ate a lot of citrus foods or acidic foods - over time she has adjusted and doesn't seem bothered by it. We haven't introduced it to her directly yet.

He also said we would see a varitey of reacations while introducing foods and the big things to look for are swollen lips or tounge, hives, throwing up or major diareaha...

He wasn't concerned by a hive here or there nor diaper rash that wasn't severe. Her butt always just got red - never blistery or anything...

Brady LOVES cantaloupe but it causes a horrible rash on his behind.  I don't classify him as allergic though.  Sensitive maybe.  I just know to feed him a little at a time and not every day.  Perhaps you can just do tomato here and there for your son.
