I went to my OB as my intention was to try medication first, if I had been interested in avoiding medication I probably would have started with a Therapist (unless you go to a Psy. their not going to be able to RX you meds). I think OB's are or at least should be better versed in PPD meds, what works for different symptoms ect than a PCP.
I went to my family doctor (i guess that would be a PCP down south), and she's referring me to counselling.
ETA: OBs here just help you through pregnancy and delivering the baby, that's all. Maybe they'll do the 6w checkup, depending on the doctor. Family doctors deal with everything else.
I reported my feelings to my OB first (at a 4 week pp check-up). He referred me to a psychiatrist because they are more specialized and know more about what medications/dosages to give.
