Hi guys,
I am busy preparing for our upcoming birth and apparently to add our baby to our benefits we need to have her social security number.
Does the hospital provide you with that paperwork on site or do I need to go to the SS office after we get out of the hospital? (Can you tell this is all new for me?)
Re: Baby Social Security Number?
When are you due? I'm due in late July...
Anyway, I think the hospital gives you the appropriate forms to get a SSN. If not, you may need to go to the SS office. You may want to check the rules around adding your LO with your benefits provider. For me, I have 30 days to add the little one to my insurance policy, but it cannot be done before the LO is born.
Hope that helps.
Ditto to this. My hospital filled everything out and submitted it, and the SS card came a couple weeks later. I had all of my insurance papers filled out, then as soon as she was born, I added her name and date of birth and sent it in to get her added. I just added her SSN later, once I actually had it.
They are supposed to. But make sure you follow up.
Our hospital told us that they did. But the person who did it put down the wrong date of birth for our son, from what I understand. He was born late at night, and we talked to her the next day. Apparently, she put the day that we talked to her as his date of birth. So something happened where it never got processed and it was a pain in the butt.
That's my understanding of what happened anyway. So make sure you confirm all the information.
