Soooo, I'm following (or trying very hard to!) Dr. Luke's nutrition plan, and I had my first day yesterday of taking the vitamins/supplements that are recommended.
For those of you that followed Dr. Luke's recommendations, did you take all or some of the supplements, too? Any tips for getting them to go down easier??
Re: Dr. Luke ? - supplements?
No, no additional supplements for me.
And be careful with her nutitional recommendations - I gained all the necessary weight without going anywhere near a milkshake every night.

I am having no trouble putting on weight with out following Dr.Luke's specific advise. I'm up 12 lbs. as of today. I almost feel like I'm gaining too much as I started out about 20 lbs. overweight.
I'm just eating lots of dairy and protein. I'm eating more red meat and less chicken than I normally do to get the iron. I'm also making sure to eat when I'm hungry and that means snacks between meals. Snacks are usually fruit, nuts, & cheese (and ice cream).
I don't know why I'm going on and on. I should leave the advise to those who have gone all the way. I mostly wanted to chime in to say that I'm gaining lots of weight without hardly trying and I think I would be overdoing it if I was eating close to what Dr. Luke recommends.
My MFM, who is amazing, believes in the vitamin supplements from the book. He recommends taking the Ca/Mg/Zinc combo pill from the book, but suggests you get the "High Potency" pill - the regular pill (like the one from Nature Made) would require you to take 9 pills a day, whereas the high potency one is only 3 pills a day. They are available from vitamin stores, perhaps not in the grocery store.
I also take Iron, 2 pills a day, but I didn't start that until I became anemic at 26 weeks. He also recommends fish oil, 2000 mg/day, but it has to be the molecular distilled (mercury free) version. I was taking Expecta Lipil and he told me to save that until I'm breastfeeding and take the fish oil now because it has a much broader range of fatty acids which are good for my cardiovascular system. And I also take folic acid and baby aspirin.
What does your doc recommend? Make sure he/she is on baord with all these supplements before you start them.
My MFM had me on all the Dr. Luke rec. supplements. I took a long-acting mag pill and all the rest I basically just took them throughout the day about every 2 hours to get them all down! The iron was the worst since you have to take it on an empty stomach and can't lay down/eat dairy etc.. after. I think they helped - my twins arrived at 35w 2days at 5.2 and 5.10lb/oz
good luck!
PS: I didn't do the milkshakes etc.. but did eat 2 eggs, lots of nuts, & dried fruit, string cheese etc.. every single day to pump up my calories/protein/fat
