1st Trimester

Probably a silly question...

Not sure if its already been asked but..

I'm only a few weeks along and since its summer the lawn needs to be mowed. My DH is stuck on night shift working 12s this week and the yard will need to be mowed in the next few days. Since he sleeps during the day for work, I was wondering would it be safe for me to mow the lawn? Its a push mower (not self propelled) and my yards rather big (all flat land though). Anyone know if its safe to mow? Or if I should play it safe and ask a friend? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

  • You should be fine. Your Only 3 wks right now. Just make sure you drink plenty of fluid and if you feel overwelmed take a few breaks. Don't get too over heated

Agreed! I know those push mowers can be quite a workout! You have to watch your heart rate (I think it needs to stay under 140), and you have to be sure not to get overheated.

  • Any activity you did before pregnancy is fine during pregnancy, so as long as your body is used to mowing the lawn that should be fine. If you never mowed a lawn in your life, I'd probably say err on the side of caution, but if you've done if before you're fine.

  • DH usually does the lawn but he was out of town and it really needed to be mowed.  I didn't want to wait so I mowed it.   We have a giant hill and a push lawn mower.  I was breathing a little heavy but didn't feel uncomfortable.  The big thing is to listen to your body, drink lots of water, and take lots of breaks.  It might be best to do it earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon when it isn't too hot.  Just don't forget your water.  Listen to your body, you'll be fine.

  • Thanks for the replies ladies :) I'll make sure to drink water and not rush it!

  • I think it's pretty safe.  I've mostly heard that you shouldn't be lifting really heavy things.  If you start to feel sick or something while mowing, then obviously stop.  But you should be fine.
