embarrassing problem - stinky breath?

I have heard that bad breath can be a problem during pregnancy, personally I never noticed it. But 3 weeks after having DS, DH has complained about my bad breath twice. Nothing has changed in my hygiene - both times I had brushed my teeth and used mouthwash within a few hours. He's never complained about it before. Has anyone else experienced this as related to pregnancy and breastfeeding, or should I assume it's unrelated?

  • Do you brush your tongue?  You gotta clean all that gunk off of it.  I'm religious with cleaning my tongue , however this would usually end up causing me to toss my cookies while pregnant.  I lost many bowls of Cheerios from doing that!  lol

  • yes mine got bad when i got pregnant and im still dealing with it.. i brush my tongue, cheeks, roof of mouth.. everything but its still bad, i plan on making an appt. to the dentist soon!
  • DH hasn't said anything yet, but did offer me some gum the other day so I guess he is thinking it!  I have noticed it as well.  I brush my teeth several times during the day when I notice it, but it still seems to linger some days. I am interested to see if anyone else has information on this!
  • I do brush all over--tongue included...and use mouthwash. But shortly after I can even taste it coming back. I'm thinking a dentist appt is in my near future!

  • Are you losing a lot of weight? sometimes when you're loosing weight your body creates ketones and that can make you have stinky breath.

    I'd try gum and mints.
