If you have blinds on your windows

We have blinds in our bedrooms in our new house. They are mounted to the window frame. DS is getting up too early and I think it's because it's too bright in his room. What can we do? I know many will say blackout shades, but how can I do those with the blinds mounted the way they are?

Re: If you have blinds on your windows

  • We have blinds like you, and my dh mounted the roller blackout panel to the wall, so it covers the trim.  But we have curtain panels that cover the trip anyway, so you don't really even notice the rolling blackout shade when it is up.  It's only temporary anyway.

Or just get a blackout panel to go behind a regular window panel.

  • We put black out curtains up and keep them closed. haven't figured out what to do with the blinds yet

  • Oh wait, I should say that our normal blinds are mounted inside the window trim.  I guess if it were mounted on the front, what we did won't work.
  • When you close them make sure to close them pointing up not down. We had blinds throughout the house, mounted to the frames. I am not a fan so replaced most with window treatments. In the kids' rooms, I did combination sheers and curtain panels, but their bedroom, which has the sun on it all day was getting too hot. I think because the panel in there was gingham which let's in more light. So we remounted the blinds behind the curtains. They are mounted to the frame and the curtains on rods mounted to the wall. You can buy panels with white lining which serve to block light and heat. It does not look strange (I hope) because the sheer hides the blinds unless you look closely. You'd need a double rod to do a combo.
