Infertility

anyone pregnant naturally after failed IVF(s)?

I think my subject pretty much says it all... Sad

DH and I have been TTC for almost 3 years with unexplained infertility. We have had multiple failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs. Everything about my cycles has been *perfect* - we just haven't gotten pregnant.

At this point we're out of money AND out of hope. We're going to have to TTC naturally for the next year or two until we can save enough $$ to maybe try IVF again. Of course, I'm no longer sure IVF can work for us.

I guess what I'm really looking for is hope. Has anyone gotten pregnant naturally after medical intervention failed? Particularly after failed IVF?

Re: anyone pregnant naturally after failed IVF(s)?

  • People have, but they probably don't frequent this board much. There is a Success After Infertility board where you might find some hope.

GL! We, too, have had failed IVF/FET cycles and are trying naturally again. I just can't do cycles with the RE right now, this past year has taken too much out of me.

  • As the pps have said you might have more luck on SAIF.  However, I have seen a lot of girls have multiple IVF failures and then get a BFP, so don't give up hope.  Sometimes it just takes a lot of trying and it's just a cr*pshoot.  Have you looked into a second opinion or more testing?  What's your dx?

  • I know it has happened (not first-hand, unfortunately). I remember seeing it posted in some siggys on the SAIF board. Sorry about your IVF BFNs. Had my first IVF BFN a couple months ago...

  • Yes, but unfortunately I immediately m/c.  My Lap a few months later, my RE said it was a miracle that I even got that far, though, because my tubes were a mess.

Oh, and I know a woman with DOR who got PG with IVF and then got PG a year or so after naturally.  She got PG 2 more times after that but unfortunately m/c

  • I've had 5 failed IVFs (fresh) and 2 failed FETs and was told I most likely have egg issues due to my age. I have gotten pregnant twice on our own. The first ended in m/c. I found out about the second a couple of weeks ago but I haven't told anyone yet b/c I don't really know how to feel about it.

  • Me!  We tried for four years, had three previous miscarriages and tried IVF twice and during that we didn't make one decent embryo.  I clearly have some egg issues.  My RE had me change my diet and workout schedule and I finally got pregnant with a healthy baby.

  • It can and does happen.  Unfortunately it is not that common.   There were two success stories on TTCafter35 in the last couple of months of similar things.  One was a girl with I think 2 failed IVF, she was getting ready for #3 and then got K/U on her own.

I had two failed IVFs and am now K/U with twins.  My story is in my siggie below - I hope it brings you some hope.

  • What - am I reading that right - Rose are you pregnant??

  • Thanks ladies.

I didn't think about the fact that a lot of women on this board haven't been successful....yet. But there are at least a few successes!

I'll try posting on SAIF, too.

This is just so difficult. I don't know what to try next. Our diagnosis is unexplained. My IVFs went great - I had no fertilization problems, made blasts and when that didn't work we tried a 3DT.

We don't have IF coverage and used every bit of of our savings for IVF. I only have one RE locally so we'd have to drive at least 2 hours AND pay out of pocket for a second opinion. We need to take the rest of this year off.

I'm just looking for enough hope to get me through the waiting and saving money. Sad

Thanks again and good luck to everyone!

  • I did and at 37!  After a Feb IUI ending in miscarriage, we went on to have a perfect IVF cycle, which produced 5 embryos that all made it to blastocyst stage. The two best rated embryos - they received the highest rating from the embryologist - were transferred at day 5. After the dreaded two week waiting period, my cycle started. There was no HCG in my system, the embryos had not implanted at all. The transfer was quite painful and I believe, from what I've read, that the embryos experienced trauma during the procedure, though my RE does not think it had anything to do with with the failure. Regardless, it was unsuccessful and devastating.

And to make matters worse, the other 3 embryos were not frozen - my RE said he thought he was looking at a multiples situation not a no pregnancy situation. They try not to freeze any eggs until Day 6, that way people aren't left with the decision of what to do with extras and he doesn't have a freezer full of babies.  We live in a hurricane prone area and when a New Orleans clinic lost all their embryos during Katrina it really brought that liability to the forefront.

During the time period in between the failed IVF cycle and the next round of IVF, I purchased a 20 day ovulation kit and tested daily. On the LAST day, finally the LH surge was detected. Now I'm five weeks pregnant and hoping this little guy/gal stays with me for the long haul. Good luck! Anything is possible!

BTW, our infertility was "unexplained".  My husband had antibody issues and my age was a huge factor, even though we had successful pregnancies on our own without any problems.
