I hate dealing with contractors-

I really really do- especially when it is dealing with something I know very little about. I always have that feeling in the back of my head that I/we are getting taken advantaged of- same thing with dealing with car stuff.

Dealing with two contractors today- i was told a myriad of things that seemed to be extra/added on- that either didn't seem necessary or just seemed padded. kwim?-

blah-

  • YES!  And they use jargon to talk over your head.  And then I debate between asking a thousand questions because I don't know if that will taken as a weakness - I don't want to point out that I don't know anything about the topic, but I don't want to make a decision without knowing about the topic.  AND I think that when many of them walk into a house with a SAHM, they think, 'aw sweet, I can take advantage of this woman'

  • This is the one area that I'm good at because it's my background.

Whenever I get contractors in they do think that I'm someone that has no idea what they're talking about. It's how I weed out the "better" contractors from the guys who will rip you off.

I don't have an issue paying for good service. I just don't want to overpay because someone wants to make a bigger profit and cut corners......

I'll admit, this is where I refuse to deal with it.  If someone is working on the house, I tell DH he needs to be there for it.  We had a lot of issues when we first built our house and the company who did it messed up BIG time.  I'm too damn nice and DH can cut through the BS pretty quick.  Thankfully we're pretty much done with it:)
