Typical- save $250.00 spend 1k

So I posted about how i did such a great job at the grocery store this weekend---

I came home from the grocery store to find my hot water heater flooding the basement- I went to Home Depot- talked to them- got estimates. Went to Lowe's did the same- scheduled to have a plumber come out-

quote after problem diagnosed: close to a grand.

Never ceases to fail.

one step ahead- two steps back.

Now we are debating about just paying it- or having my FIL (plumber) come down from Maine to do the job. always something. always something.

  • Ugh Blah!

I didn't read the post on the grocery save but saw your title.  I wish we had better grocery stores up here that dispersed their own coupons.  Awesome deal, though!

lol- indeed. sometimes i really wonder if it is worth it because you really do in the end wind up bending over and holding your ankles- lol when all is said and done.

  • Just wait until they come put it in and tell you it will be double that because your not up to current code, then fly your FIL down.
  • already been told that ~ lol. been there- done that. its not costing more money but supposedly our township says we have to have a pan underneath our water heater if it is adjacent to a finished room to prevent water damage- I signed off on accepting responsibility on that- i am not paying a plumber to do something that my DH/FIL can do.

  • I hear you.  We JUST had to replace the first floor's boiler (we live in the upper of a two flat + garden that gets rented) about a month and a half ago.  That sucked.  Thankfully DH is a maintenance engineer and actually knew how to replace it himself which was a huge savings.  Still sucked though.
  • That sucks.  And the same thing always happens to us too.  One step ahead, three steps back.

My BIL is a plumber and does work on the side.  Might be cheaper than whatever Lowe's/Home Depot wants to charge you.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.  Let me know if you want me to ask him.
