lunch bag recs?

Mar's MDO won't refrigerate or heat up her lunch food, so I need a good lunch bag for her to take.  Any suggestions?

I started out using an old bottle bag for Eloise. I was disappointed with the quality of the one I bought at the Gap - it was cute, but started to fray at the seams before the year was out. But the cheapo walmart one I bought at back-to-school time has held up well.

If you plan to send hot food in a thermos, make sure the lunch bag is wide enough (my gap one was not). Also, I find that having a pocket on the outside of the bag that holds a drink means that I can fit a ton of food in the main compartment and I don't have to worry about her sippy squashing anything that way. And if there's a little pocket for the ice pack to go that also helps prevent squashing (my walmart one lacks this, the gap one has it).

  • We have a Room It Up lunch kit (and matching mini-backpack) and it has held up wonderfully! The inside is foil lined so it insulates better.

Luca has one from Acadamy.  It had held up well.  It has a little pocket inside for the ice pack, and a mesh pocket outside for his sippy cup.  I'm not sure if they have them now, but at back to school time they had a ton.  I think they were $9.99...  I plan to get Lila one soon.

Before the lunch bag, we used a little mini cooler bag...  It was a little big, but worked.

  • E. has this one from Mint.  It's insulated and it's got a side pocket that I put an ice brick in, just so her milk stays cold.  I usually send her milk in a sippy cup.

  • We ordered from PBK and I don't recommend them, they are way too small, you really need something big for drinks and food and ice packs. It is cute though :-).

We ended up going to academy and getting a zipper one with a hard plastic insert (holds a 6 pack) - I highly recomend the plastic inserts as it's so much easier to clean since you can take the whole thing out.

oh that's a great idea - plus it would keep things from getting crushed too

I bought one from PBK it has an elephant on it and is pink. We also got a foogo container that we put all her hot food in to keep it warm for lunch time.

  • I have a Mint backpack (the larger one), nap mat and lunch box (the larger one) for DD.  I love that they all match, it makes picking her stuff up easy after school and we've never had her stuff go home with other kids.  She loves it too...

I just put a little block from the freezer in there to keep her food cold and I've never had a problem with it.

  • We have one like this from Lands End

it has really held up well and is big enough for all the snacks and lunch that T takes for a full day. the Fogoo thermos fits perfectly in the top.

  • We also have one from Academy and it's held up really well. I also put on of those frozen ice packs in there everyday and it works great. Rena's BFF has a cute one from PBK but it only lasted a few months.
