Are all receiving blankets cotton flannel?

I realized the other day that the receiving blankets I have are all a lightweight flannel.  Since she'll be a summer baby I would think the flannel would be too hot.  Do they make regular cotton receiving blankets?  I didn't see any cute pink ones online at BRU.  Thanks!

Re: Are all receiving blankets cotton flannel?

  • I was reading through posts about a week ago and was concerned about the same thing.  It was suggested to by muslin blankets since they are more lightweight than cotton and flannel.  Works better for  a  summer baby.  I ordered some from Aden & Anais and they are pretty soft after you wash them.  They say the blankets get softer with each wash.

  • A lot of people have recommended the Aden and Anais swaddlers to me. We live in a hot climate. They are a cotton muslin, which is almost like gauze. It's more breathable and lightweight than the flannel. They have 4 packs at BBRU and Buybuybaby for $29, plus you can use a coupon.

  • DS was a summer  baby too and let me tell you...those cotton blankets are basically useless unless you're running the AC all night at 60 degrees.  I bought awesome muslin swaddlers at Target.  I don't remember the brand name unfortunately, but I HIGHLY recommend using those.
