Stacy...

Of all the "What's your daily schedule like?" posts, I've never seen yours.  From your posts, I have absolutely NO clue how you get everything done that you seem to get done and still find time to sleep a few hours.

Can I have an hour-by-hour schedule, please? lol

Re: Stacy...

  • lmao-

Sleep is for wussies. Honestly- I am just really used to being on the go. I went to a very expensive college and even though i had a lot of grants/scholarships- I paid a lot of it out of pocket- so i am used to working 'odd' jobs at odd hours to make money- when I was in college I bartended from 8pm until 1am most nights- and then went and coached iceskating crack of dawn- to a girl whose parents wanted her to be pro/compete (much more than she did). after that went to school all day long, went home did homework and back to work.~ So I guess I am just used to working really hard- to 'get it done' **I however learned a very important lesson from that young girl- stick up for what you believe in- and never waste time on something you don't absolutely love** ~ Same with law school- I worked FT in a busy corporate accounting firm & went to law school at night. So it is not like any of this is new to me.

My schedule is just like everyone else's on this board- its very important for me to spend my time doing things I love- I am with and solely focused on Gisele from 7am until 5pm (when DH gets home)- we do all the normal stuff that comes with a toddler routine. I pick up the house- deal with running after her, playdates, museums, cooking dinner etc. We do our volunteer work 2x a week when we deliver Meals on Wheels which Gisele loves. I work from 1-3pm when Gisele naps- usually organizational stuff- drafting emails, prepping for conference calls, analyzation work, etc

I am blessed to have a great night time sleeper- gisele sleeps from 7-7 as she has since she was 4 months old. So I get a lot done then- I haven't taken classes since January (due to tax season) so my nights aren't full of school anymore. I only have 1 more class to finish my LLM so I will do that this summer before baby #2 comes.

When DH gets home- we eat as a family, he plays with her for a bit- I clean up the kitchen- he baths her, we both put her to bed- and then we spend about 3 hours together- watching crappy mindless TV, talking, playing Wii- whatever. Around 10pm- I have work to do- usually conference calls. Around 2-3am I go to sleep and catch 5-6hrs before Gisele gets up.

Weekends are family time- and no errands or cleaning gets done- I will be the first one to tell you that I don't have a lot of time for 'ME' ~ but I think we all struggle with that in some form or another. And we ALL need to learn how to pencil in 'ME' time. I need to be better with that and make that more of a priority. And I need to learn how to rely more on DH. ( again- i don't think that is any different than a lot of ladies on this board)

I have always just been organized- but I don't stress over things- if something doesn't get done- it will get done tomorrow.  Even though I am very routine oriented (I clean the same thing every week on the same day-) if a routine goes out the window- it goes out the window- tomorrow is another day.

  • and honestly- working so hard and having the opportunity to work mostly from home is what bothers me so much about seeing all of the 'What website can I go to to make money.... so I don't have to go back to work' posts-

welcome to reality ladies- there is no such thing as an easy 'out'

there are no magical websites that lets you WFH and stay home with your kid. People who do it successfully- juggle a lot of balls and have to be resourceful.

  • I'm glad you posted this.  I've always wondered as well, lol.  Stacy, I can't believe you go to bed at 2-3am!  I would be a zombie, but I guess some people function just fine on less sleep.  I'm not a very pleasant person to be around on less than 8-9 hours.  :-)

  • Great info.  Agreed on the "easy" work from home opportunity posts.  I work very part-time but just scheduling that in has become quite the task.  It is very hard to find a true balance and I don't think I'll ever get there.  He's only 3 1/2 months (and 35-years old... lol), so who knows.

Thanks for sharing the info... and I'm glad to hear you at least get 4 or 5 hours sleep.  I was bettin' on thirty minutes.

  • There is definitely a learning curve to juggling working and SAH. It doesn't get easier or harder- it just constantly changes. One thing gets easier with the kid and at the same time another thing gets harder. Constant change- it definitely keeps you on your toes. ~ you just can't predict life anymore. Before Jackson came- could you imagine that your DH would have hurt himself and you both would be dealing with that as well?- Surely not- but you adjust. or try your best to- and make the best of it-

so much of my job requires dealing with people of different countries and cultures- so that is a lot of adapting. Dealing with a business 'culture' in Asia- is VERY different than closing a deal in Latin America ~ so I am constantly learning and 'shifting' and adapting/adjusting. So I HAVE to be 'on the fly' adaptable to different situations- so flexibility is really crucial for my work- and that spills over to my personal life.

True balance is (i think) a mythical state lol. You get out what you put in. So if you make it (finding a balance) a priority- my thought is you get close and you have to be thankful for that. To me close is better than nothing.

  • Just wanted to butt in and sound like a total kiss a$$.  I was going to applaud Stacy for her wonder womanness the other day, but decided I would sound psycho!  But now is my chance.

Your daily description, S, makes it sound so simple....like I think 'I could do that!'  But when you nonchalantly mention in a post how you fly two the moon 2x a week to repair craters or save starving seal babies in the pacific (yes, all of the way from Philly), I always find myself thinking you are not a real person, OR you are really 5 people.

I suppose it is all relative.  But God knows, if I do not have plenty of down time sprinkled with ME time, I become a crazy lady.  Stacy, I have said it once and will say it again, I think you are a pretty remarkable lady (or a fictional character) ;)

  • lol- i hardly think delivering meals on wheels 2x a week equates to repairing moon craters or saving starving seal babies. I wish i did more humanitarian stuff-
