1st Trimester

Getting larger, but not gaining weight.

I know that bloating is a HUGE factor in many womens pregnancies.  I am definitely one of those women.  Around 5 weeks, I couldn't button my pants and be comfortable. At 6 weeks, I couldn't button or zip my pants.  I bought a bellaband at 5 weeks because I refused to buy a new wardrobe of clothes in a size bigger knowing that I will only grow out of those too.  Now, at 7 weeks my thighs won't even fit into some of my jeans. I have found the perfect solution though...

I went on a summer dress shopping spree! I bought a handful of new summer dresses with an a-line cut.  They are comfortable and allow for room to grow.  The fact that I was starting to feel and look like a stuffed sausage in my jeans was really taking a toll on my extra sensitive emotions, sending me into tears some mornings trying to get dressed.

Anyone else already running into this "growing" problem this early?  Anyone know of good remedies for bloating that are pregnancy safe?  I already drink a ton of water and have reduced my salt intake a little. It doesn't help that all of my cravings are for salty foods...

Re: Getting larger, but not gaining weight.

  • I had the same situation.  Just wait it out until it goes from bloat to bump, mine just switched last week and I think the rest of my bloat (thighs etc) have leveled out.  But it is weird that I've only gained 2 pounds, because I'm very obvious with bump and boobs now and am in maternity cllothes.  I don't think it's so much bloat as it is reorganized body weight...

  • I LOVE my flowy, roomy dresses!

I'd just wait it out.  Tea is a natural diuretic, but it's also got caffeine, so you have to limit your intake.  I can't drink my coffee anymore b/c the smell makes me sick, but my doctor said one or two cups a day of a caffeinated beverage is fine.

I started wearing maternity jeans around 7 weeks (I'm 9 weeks now), and I think I'm going to have to start wearing maternity slacks to work.  I wish I could just make it through the school year with what I've got.  I might be able to make it.

I feel silly having to wear maternity clothes at 9 weeks, but I'm way more comfortable in them.

  • I bought a bunch of new jeans and capris in one size up. Yeah I know they won't fit forever but I need something to wear now. I also ordered some bella bands on Ebay so I hope those will extend my new wardrobe.

Also the bigger sizes will be nice for after the baby has arrived. To tide you over until baby weight comes off =].

  • With DS I did not gain any weight until 3rd trimester but I had a HUGE bump, so you definitely can get larger without gaining actual pounds on the scale.

I did the same thing-I just got a lot of dresses and wore them. There's not really much you can do for the bloat besides drink a lot of water and avoid sodium. It gets better after 1st tri.

  • My pants don't fit and I def. have a baby bump going but i've actually lost 10 lbs. since BFP.
  • I have not gained a pound (I'm down 2, actually) but my belly is not flat and cute anymore. So my tees don't look cute at all. I wear looser tops and dresses. I ordered a cabana dress from Old Navy this week and it is lightweight and very comfy. And has plenty of belly room for those bloat days!
  • I am in dresses, stretchy skirts, and yoga pants full time right now.  Jeans just aren't happening.  The bloat is there.  It is obvious.
