Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How often do you empty your diaper pail? (11-12 month olds)

We have a Diaper Genie 2 and lately, I swear we have to empty it every other day, sometimes two days in a row.  Sometimes there are only a few diapers in it.  The problem is, it smells so foul because of DD's poopy diapers!!  The smell is confined until we open it to put another diaper in and when we do, whoa nelly, look out!  Anyone else have this problem??

We don't use one. I think they are gross. We just put the diaper outside when he poops.

  • We empty about every 3 days because that is about how often DD poops. We used a Diaper Genie 2 a friend had given me for about a week and decided it was a PITA and went back to our regular old diaper pail. Sometimes I'll put the poopy diapers inside a plastic grocery bag and it can last another day between changes. The grocery bag theory could work with the Diaper Genie though too. We also stick a baking soda in there.

  • We have an old school diaper genie and don't have to empty it until it is full.  And this is after nearly 4 years of continued use!
  • we empty it about ever 3rd ish day if it is really stinky I will just spray a "room stray" in it after putting the poopie in & that helps
  • We don't have a DG, just a regular garbage can and I empty it every day.  I thought about getting a DG because it's soo stinky but have heard they hold the smell after awhile.  I'm going to have to start taking poopy dipes outside.

  • We stopped using it a long time ago. We throw them straight into the trash right away (outside).

  • We use cloth diapers during the day and pampers at night.  I have a small garbage inside the diaper pail that I empty when it is full of pampers and wipes, usually about once a week.  I use a diaper pail liner from Jillians Drawers and it keeps the smell in really well.

  • DS isn't 11 months yet, but I can't imagine it'll change when he is. We empty twice a week, when the garbage men come. FWIW, he only poops every 3-4 days.
  • We have a diaper decor but stopped using it by the time she was a month old. We rarely change her diaper in her room. I buy these scented plastic bags in 50 packs at dollar tree and just put the diaper in the scented bag then in the kitchen trash. We seem to empty the can almost everyday anyway.

I think it really works. We were staying in a hotel when we moved here while waiting for our house and one day housekeeping actually asked me what I do with the diapers to keep our room from smelling. She said that rooms with babies usually stink.
