Anyone have spotting/cramping after Pap Smear

I hate reading the posts about spotting/cramping as they freak me out. So I apologize in advance..

My betas have been going up great..Last one was Monday..I went in for an appt Tuesday and although I was nervous about a pap, doc said it was fine..

This morning (Thurs) I woke up with some serious af like type cramps...I also had a slight bit of spotting..

Now cramps are gone, but still a tiny bit of spotting (brown). I am just soo nervous..Called Doc..he sent me for another beta...but it's just wait and see.

I had spotting with ds, and he turned out fine..but I didn't have the combination of spotting/cramping so now I am freaked out.
So thank you for taking the time to read this...Did you have a pap or internal exam and spot/cramp afterwards??

Thanks,

  • I cramp after paps. Nearly ALL the time. My body seems to love to cramp. I'm sure it's normal for most women too, but just monitor it closely. You've already called your doc so you'll get good answers soon hopefully.

  • I did have an internal exam last week and while I did not have any cramping, the doctor said I might notice some spotting.  Since you mentioned that the spotting was brownish, I think you should be ok because that would indicate older blood as opposed to bright red blood.  Hope this helps and good luck!

  • I don't have any first hand knowledge on this, but I do know that my doc made a point to tell me that sex could cause bleeding because your cervix is engorged and very sensitive.

Knowing that, I'm guessing that rubbing a brush across your cervix would be just as likely, if not more so, to cause a bit of bleeding.

Sorry you're going through this, and I hope that you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

  • Yes. During my 1st pregnancy, the dr even told me after the pap it was common to spot/cramp afterwards and it was normal. You're fine. Your cervix is very sensitive during pregnancy.

  • It is very normal to have spotting after a Pap. Your cervix is extra sensative during pg and lots of things can cause spotting.

  • Any time you have an internal, you are likely to cramp and will almost always spot; that can be an internal ultrasound, a pap, or an exam to see if you are dilated. You can also spot after sex.

I am sorry you are nervous, though. I know how that is.

    Yes

  • I had a good amount of spotting when I got a pap at 6 weeks.  No cramps though and the spotting went away after a few hours.
