Postpartum Depression

Would you start zoloft while alone with the baby?

Sorry I know that this is the third question like this but my anxiety is flaring up and I have to ask someone, anyone.

I'm starting zoloft.  I'm supposed to start today but I don't know if it'll make me sleepy or wide awake so I want to wait until the weekend to start (I work).

But FI won't be home tomorrow evening and he's working Saturday all day.  I have this intense worry that if I take it while alone with DD, I'll have a really bad reaction to it like maybe I'll completely pass out and not be able to hear her cry or I'll be more anxious or it'll be really bad and I can't control my actions or something.

Is this just the anxiety talking? Do you think it's better if I wait to try it when FI is home?

  • i would think youll be ok, i didnt have any strange reactions. you might feel loopy, but not to the point where you cant take care of the baby (at least, thats how it was for me). the sooner you start taking it the sooner youll start to feel better!

  • nope it wont cause anything like that. you probably wont feel a difference until sometime tomorrow or later anyway. i would start it asap. GL!
  • In my experience it's not the kind of medication you pass out or anything from. When I've started it, I've felt a little out of it, like just my brain was fuzzy, but not to the point where I couldn't take care of LO or myself.

  • I don't know ... I feel like you're taking a "risk" anytime you start a new anti-depression or anxiety med. I had a horrible reaction when I started taking zoloft (all-day panic attacks), so I'd personally never take a new med if I was alone with the baby. When the doc started me on lexapro I had my mom come stay with me for a week in case I had a bad reaction again. Luckily, I didn't.
