DH & I are going to happy hour with some colleagues of ours tomorrow evening. Since I'm only like 4w pg, we're certainly not ready to tell anyone... but I can't drink my normal beer or wine either. I need either a non-alcoholic substitution that will fool people, or a really good excuse (not illness-related, though, or they'll ask if I'm pg, and I don't want to lie if I'm asked directly.... )
Any suggestions???
Re: What to drink at Happy Hour?
Cranberry juice or club soda with a lime. Have the bartender put it in a short glass so it looks like a cocktail. Stir it frequently like there's booze in it. Hehe.

You could say your the DD. But I'm even known to have a glass of wine or beer when my DH and I are out with friends even if I'm driving. I've been using a couple of excuses:
(A) I'm giving blood tomorrow. I do actually give blood a few times a year, so it's not a total lie. But the blood bank demands that you not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours in advance of donating...so really good excuse to give to your happy hours peeps.
(B) My allergies are really bad and I just took some medication. Again, not a total lie. This spring has been awful for allergy sufferers, more so than previous years. And really you shouldn't drink when you're taking Sutafed.
I've also heard people say that they're getting over a stomach bug. But if you're worried about what to drink, I agree with dxiechicken41. No one will suspect your cranberry juice isn't spiked.
Have fun tonight!
This is what I've done.
1. Virgin margarita!! love the salty rim.
2. N/A Shirley Temple
3. N/A Long Island Ice Tea
or just say your on meds that don't allow alcohol. Good luck. and enjoy the appetizers!

These are all great suggestions. I was going to say cranberry juice with a lime in a short glass with ice, or sprite with a lime. Both look like mixed drinks (vodka and cranberry, and vodka and sprite).
I am in a similar situation, my brother graduates this weekend and we will all be going out to celebrate. Only my parents and DH's parents know and we aren't quite ready to spill the beans yet.
