Uncircumcised penis tip red and rough?

My 20 month old DS is uncircumcised. We've never had any issues. The past week or so the tip of his penis is a little red and rough, like scabby. I noticed tonight there was a little bit of yellow dried up crust or something (could be pee, he had just peed) up inside the tip. I've been giving him about 3-5 hours a day of naked time to let it air out, but it's not going away. We cloth diaper if that matters. He does not seem bothered at all by this. I did look online and it says that around the age of potty training, the foreskin begins to pull back a little on its own. Could this be what is happening? My DH is circumcised and we don't think its bad enough to call the doctor yet. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

It's too early for it to be retracting.  Ds' penis looks like this sometimes, minus the yellow.  I'd just put some Aquaphor on it and leave it be. 

If he starts getting a rash in the folds of his legs and the tip is still red, that's a yeast rash and you'll need jock itch cream or cream for a yeast infection.

I can't really help, but I just wanted to comment on how you do 3-5 hours of naked time! Wow!  My DD would love this, but she would just pee everywhere.

LOL, we spend a lot of time outdoors. Plus we have tile in the majority of our house so it's easy to clean up. And DS has a little potty and will go in it as long as we tell him to every 30 minutes or so.

Is anyone trying to retract the foreskin?  Does your DS go to daycare?  Are they uninformed and are retracting it to wipe it at daycare?  Or is he in anyone else's care who could possibly be trying to retract it?

We went to a pedi, who forced DS's foreskin back.  After that, it looked the same as you are describing.  She also told us we should be pulling it back, but thankfully, we knew better and our regular pedi confirmed that.

The naked time is awesome and probably is helping.  I agree that aquaphor or some vaseline would help.  Hopefully it gets better soon!

A soak in the tub usually helps too if DS's penis looks red at the tip.  And yes - make sure NO ONE is trying to retract his foreskin unbeknownst to you!

Ahhhh..yes, he does go to daycare. Ugh! I guess I'll mention it in the morning to make sure they aren't doing this. He's gone all year with no problems until this past week so I didn't even think of them. I'll be sure to mention it to them just to be safe. Thanks!
