Adoption

Funny story...

This weekend we attended DH's grandmother 90th birthday party. All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren were there. She wanted to introduce all the family to here friends so she went around the room explaining who everyone was. Her first mistake was my BIL who has been in the family for 8 years she could not remember his name. DH was standing by him and she said "DH is my grandson". Than she came to the table I was setting at with my children from my 1st marriage and she said "these are ----- children". Then she went into a whole big long story about how I had adopted DD from Canada not even mentioning DH. When she finished her story the room was quite and DD said "and my name is DD". The whole room laughed and DH's grandmother was looking around like what ?????. She calls DD "that baby".

I do not think that see means anything bad against DD but she does not she her as our child together.

Re: Funny story...

  • It sounds to me like she is starting to lose her memory, and is trying to cover it up.  I don't really think she is intentionally not seeing your DD as your child with your husband, but maybe there are times when she doesn't realize/remember that you are married to DH, and DD is your child.

  • I guess I did not word it right I know she can not remember DD name it is the "that baby" instead of DH baby or my baby.

The funny thing was that DD said "and my name is DD".

I am not a good storyteller........

  • Oh!  So you are saying that your don't think that DD sees herself as your daughter?  That makes sense.  I guess it will just take time.

  • No, she does in fact after only having her for 7 months she says her whole new name.

Maybe you had to be there.
