Apparently that's the new word for a male Nanny. Anyway, I would not. I don't give a flying F about how wonderful they may be, I just don't see a man wanting to watch kids all day. Call me crazy.
Oh and if you are wondering where this is coming from, I just read a local story of a 20 something "manny" who's been abusing the 5 yo boy he's been watching for 3 years.
Re: Seriously, would you hire a Manny?
I don't know. DS has had two male teachers in daycare/preschool and they were wonderful. One told me he always wanted to work with kids because his dad left when he was very young and there was a male teacher who made a big difference in his life.
The other told me he just couldn't work at a job where he had to sit all the time. He enlisted in the Army a few months ago.
No. It might be wrong for me to feel that way, but I wouldn't be comfortable with a man nanny watching my girls.
When i was looking for a sitter on sittercity, a few males applied but I never responded to them b/c I knew I woudn't consider it.
Mannies are nothing new. Britney Spears had one (no comments). I probably wouldn't but honestly, a woman is just as capable as abusing a child as a man.
I was just listening to a news item the other day. And, here in Canada they said that sexual abuse by women is on the rise. They said that alot of it goes unreported since there is a stigma that only men commit sexual abuse. Especially by boys who are sexually abused by women.
I have no problem with having a male or female watching/teaching my kids. Just like any other babysitter, if a person is highly recommended, I would hire them. I know people who refuse to put their child in a classroom taught by a male. Totally alarmist and perpetuates these types of stereotypes, IMO.
