Multiples

Were you able to get NT Scan results with triplets?

We went for our NT scan on Monday and the u/s tech. had trouble getting good measurements.  The doctor refused to use the measurements and said they will not try again.

I went to the OB yesterday and she seemed really surprised by this.  As an afterthought I am considering calling the OB and asking if she would recommend that we make an appointment elsewhere to try to get the NT Scan completed.

So my question to all of you is were you able to get NT Scan results with triplets?

  • we were able to get all the measurements. they didn't do the bloodwork part since it's less accurate with multiples.

This, only we got measurements on 5 (as we were originally pregnant with quints). That being said, I went to my Peri for the NT scan. A sonographer (not the peri) did the scan but she had lots of experience with HOM. The peri went over the results with us. I would suggest asking for (read:insisting on) a referral to a Peri if you're not already seeing one not only for the NT but for the remainder of your care. Good luck!

  • My NT Scan was at the MFM office affiliated with the hospital I plan to deliver at.  It's a level III hospital.  The MFM's are shared with CHOP which I think is supposed to be the best in PA.  But I'm growing increasingly concerned about my care.  When I was there I asked the u/s tech. if she sees many triplets and she said, "No, maybe one set a year." which doesn't really add up to me.  I'm confused.  I think I need to call my OB.

Hmmmmm...that does sound odd to me. I'm one of three triplet pregnancies that my peri's office is managing currently. Is there not a more experienced u/s tech in the office that can try again? If not, can the MFM do it him/herself? It doesn't seem unusual or unreasonable to expect a MFM/Peri's office to be able to make this happen. I'm sorry for the extra stress this must be adding but I agree...I'd definitely call your OB and ask if there's another doc they can send you to for a second opinion/attempt.

We weren't even offered an NT scan, so, no.

  • I went twice for NT measurements for the twins and couldn't get good measurements and this is at a tertiary care center - apparently quite common
  • Hmmmmm...maybe I'm in the minority then. There was never a question about me getting the NT scan and there were no apparent issues in viewing babies and getting accurate readings. Guess it's another one of those strange discrpencies amongst different providers.

  • I think it all depends on positioning.  Babies were not in a good position both times even though they tried for quite a while.

They were able to get all the readings on all 4 of my quads no problem at all.
