Two Under 2

For those who feel guilty...

Don't! My son was in love with his new sister from day 1. She is the best gift I could have given him. He always wants to be with her and talk s to her about everything. It melts my heart. He is also very protective of her. She makes him so happy. And so far 3 weeks in, things aren't bad at all. She sleeps all the time so I can still spend lots of time with him. It is much easier than I thought. When she is more awake might be a different story lol.

  • I was going to say, just wait til she is more awake.

Its been rough for us lately, but DS1 still loves his brother.  He helped bathe him last night.  I've found that including him in DS2's care has made things much easier.

  • Thank you for this post.  I've been questioning our decision to start TTC #2 but feel better when I hear stories like this one.

  • I always looked at it from this standpoint.  My sister and I were 20 months apart and I STILL thank my mom for giving us each other!  My main reason for wanting another one so soon is because I want DD to have what I had growing up!

    • DD1: August 2009
    • DD2: December 2010
    • DS: August 2012

  • im glad things are going well for you. I can only hope that DS doesnt hate his sister. He likes looking at babies, but as soon as I touch one he cries--not a tantrum, but real sobs. It breaks my heart.

  • I've had 2 different experiences doing 2u2 twice. When DD#2 came along, DD#1 wanted to have NOTHING to do with DD#2. She basically ignored her for a good 6 months. When DS came along, DD#1 was so great, and DD#2 stepped in a little "TOO MUCH" and would beat on him, etc.

It has all worked out and all 3 kids play together nicely now...........

Somehow, you do find your groove.

Oh, and it does get harder when your younger one is more mobile, and even worse when she wants your older one's toys, etc.

DS#1 just started giving kisses to DS#2 and it's so sweet.  Of course, we're still trying to teach him to be gentle with DS#2.  I know someone with 4 kids 4 years apart, and they are so close.

  • Ditto here!  DS LOVES his baby sister.  Very occasionally he seems jealous but he never takes it out on her...just me!

They are going to be so close.  Watching her laugh at him warms my heart!

  • But the best quote I heard that helped me not feel so guilty was "The best gift you can give your child is a sibling"
