Would you have a dinner party the same day you had your house painted?

We were planning on having a small dinner party on Friday.

I got a call from the painters today and they are coming on Friday morning to paint the living room and kitchen.

Would you cancel the dinner? I am thinking of doing that because of paint fumes. We would have to be mostly indoors since it's supposed to rain.

DH said it's up to me.

  • I dont think it would be that bad. Paints now days dont really have that bad of a smell. Plus you can crack a window and the smell of dinner, etc will help.

I wouldnt cancel, but that is just me

  • No, I wouldn't cancel. Open a window or two if you can and light a candle.

  • I would probably cancel just because I wouldn't want to think about cleaning up the paint right before the party.  I like my events to have a large buffer for things that can go wrong.
  • Can you move the party to Saturday night?  I would reschedule mainly b/c of the mess that will be made in your home, but the smell will probably be pretty bad too.  Just had my bathroom painted on Sunday and the smell was pretty strong until the next day...

I would because that would be cutting it too close for me.  Would you be able to cook with them in your kitchen all day?

  • Between the smell and the fact that the walls might not be entirely dry, I'd reschedule the dinner party.

I wouldn't want any damage to walls that I just paid to have painted.

  • I would vote to either a) cancel or b) keep it but order pizza and plan to be outside.

I say this not because of the fumes but because of the likelyhood that the painting, clean up, etc., won't be finished on time.
