Tummy time

Any suggestions to get my 3 month old son to like it?  He really throws a fit every time but i keep trying.

Re: Tummy time

  • I wouldn't worry too much about it unless your pediatrician expresses concern about his milestones. my older son hated it, so i just never did it. after he started sitting up there was no point.

I tried to get S. to do tummy time in the beginning.  She hated it so I eventually just gave up.  I never even attempted it with E.

I think tummy time is a bit of a crock.  I say do the best you can but don't worry too much if it's not happening.

  • I'm sure you've done this but we find she enjoys tummy time on our chest (namely DH's chest) the best. I put her on her play mat and she doesn't last near as long as when we play with her while on our chest.
  • Joseph and Avery hated tummy time unless they were on someone's chest.  I didn't force them to do it and once they started rolling over, they started liking it much better.

    I can't believe C and C are 3 months old already!

  • I propped Tracey up on the boppy sometime. She liked that better. I could also get her do do more than 30 seconds of it if I put her at the end of our bed and turned on the TV. I never did that for more than 5 minutes or so, but it definitely kept her head up!

  • Evan hates it too. Our pedi said that it gives them incentive to roll over. I'll try it, but won't torture him with it. He is already pretty good at keeping his head up, so I'm not worried.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

  • Thanks ladies! Not going to worry about it perhaps tummy time is overrated.  His twin sister loves tummy time but for some reason he has better control over his head when they use the bumbo- go figure

This was also how it was for Dylan.

After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

I did both of these when Cooper was really little.  But then he never hated tummy time and could hold his head up very early, so it might not help you. Try the boppy and the chest thing and if they don't help I wouldn't sweat it.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in that belief!  C isn't a big fan at all.  He's gotten better about it some, but it's far from a hit around here.  He tolerates it best right after his bath.  I'll lay him down on the floor, naked, on a towel and he'll do some tummy time while I lotion his back and talk to him.
