I posted this on 2nd tri, but wanted to see if anyone on this board had any input too...Does anyone have a "drop gate" crib?? I have found a crib I like, that is drop gate. I have researched and cannot find that they have been recalled like the drop side cribs... anybody else heard anything about them?? Here is a link to an example incase you aren't sure what a drop gate is, I didn't know until I saw it today...
Thanks!
Re: Drop Gate Cribs??
I'd stay clear of those.
I'd go for the standard without any type of dropping mechanism.
Baby Bargains recommends against the Baby's Dream drop gate because it actually creates a ledge/foothold for older babies to climb out of the crib using. A few of their readers wrote in about finding their kids on the floor after having fallen out. They recommend Baby's Dream as a company, but advise that you avoid the crib. They do have a stationary version of the Ocean available if you like the style.
I have a stationary side crib for DS1. When DS2 was born, DS1 was not ready to transition from the crib (he's actually still in it a year later).
One of MIL's friends gave us her daughter's crib, which happens to be Baby's Dream Generation Next with the drop gate.
I really don't like the drop gate. I'm on the short side and never had a problem laying DS1 down in the stationary side crib. I really don't think that the drop gate makes the edge of the crib that much lower, if any, than the stationary side. I hate how much noise it makes when I click it into place after I lay DS2 down. And I am nervous about what the pp said about the hinge being a step. I actually think that when DS1 is done with his crib, I will move it to DS2's room and stop using the drop gate crib.
HTH!
The Baby's Dream Drop-gate (Now they're calling them safety-gate) cribs are totally different from drop SIDE cribs. I have the Kathryn Crib, with the safety-gate (drop-gate) and my son NEVER used the "ledge" as a step to get out of the crib. He is very tall for his age (in 95th percentile) and he couldn't climb out of the crib. I transitioned him when he was 21 months because I he could climb onto the counters in the kitchen, so I knew it was only a matter of time before he figured out how to climb out.
I recommend the safety-gate cribs from Baby's Dream... or their Stationary kind too. I bought a stationary one for DD from them (b/c I like that style more and it wasn't offered in safety-gate version).
