I am so surprised they didn't ask him if he had been drinking or done a DUI check before handing the keys over. How tragic!

I think the mom is mostly to blame.  She KNEW he had been drinking and had to know what was happening.  Had she spoken up, told the cop that BF was drunk and told the officer not to allow her son to go with him, things would have been different.  AND she had to know her license was suspended, she should have never been in the drivers seat (and never been the DD).  Irresponsible parenting.
