Another Pre-e Q

I went in today for biophysical profiles of the babies and went to a sister office to the one I to to see my MFM (he works at both offices).  For at least a month my urine has shown just a trace of protein.  They didn't tell me what it said today.  My BP has been 120/80-ish the whole time.  Today it was 147/87.  They said they would try again at the end of my appt and I guess they forgot.  I am definitely swollen in my feet, legs and hands, as anyone would be in my shoes...or even bare feet ;)  I have light headaches but I was told I would get them while on procardia.

I recieved a steriod shot today and will get another tomorrow at my "home" clinic.  I will to ask the nurse who administers the shot tomorrow to take a peek at my BP and possibly ask what they found in my urine today.  I have another appt with my MFM on Thurs for another BPP, cervix check and FFN test.

I'm a pre-e virgin and I have no clue what changes in BP's are considered alarming.  Any insight?

Re: Another Pre-e Q

  • My BP never went really high... I think the highest it ever got was 140/94 or something like that. The night I ended up going into L&D to get checked out I just suddenly felt more "off' than usual. I had some pains in my upper abdomen and a slight headache. It was a PIH screen (blood test) that showed my uric acid levels were off enough to induce.

It is really hard to tell because you always feel "off" when you are this pregnant! Thankfully you are being monitored so closely that they will be right on top of any pre-e that is developing. Fingers crossed your body can hold off awhile longer!

Thanks Stef.  I was hoping you'd see this and offer some insight.  I have a had a low back ache all night and contractions too, but no more than they told me to watch for... and Dr. W told me to expect it with the steriod shots.  I'm glad I'll be seeing the nurse tomorrow and can ask the questions too.  I'm just so scared for this "great pregnancy" to take a quick turn.  BTW: I like my usual office WAY better than where I went today.  Swanky yes, but thats about it ;)

I think mine was about where yours is now when they admitted me, but it wasn't crisis mode yet. My MFM just wanted to keep a closer eye on me and make me rest more. Hopefully today's appointment won't show a higher BP!

  • Mine was concerned when it got over 140/90. My BP never got really high, but I dropped off a 24hr catch on friday and was fine besides the swelling, by 2am sunday morning we were in L&D because of a headache with light sensitivity and pain in the upper right quadrant of my belly. I do know that they were going to do BP checks every other day, but we never got far since they decided to deliver.

Def. check with your office today, hopefully the BP is down and the swelling goes down. Good luck!

The MFM checked me into the hospital for observation when my BP hit over 140/90 in week 35 (on a Wednesday).  I had no other pre-e symptoms at that time other than swelling but they started me on mag just in case while I did the 24 hour collection (which came back okay).  They were talking about releasing me and wanted just one more night and then I came down with a HORRIBLE pain between my shoulder blades on Friday night -- it was my liver failing and the babies were delivered on Saturday due to pre-e.

I hope you get good news at your appt today and don't get checked into the hospital!!!!
