Re: PTed except the BM :(

  • Have you tried sticker charts with a toy or something he really wants as a reward?

  • Loading the player...
  • well, then he's not potty-trained...

you might just need to give him poop-induced snacks, sit him and hang out, read to him, etc. and when he finally poops, make a big deal.  Do a reward system: if he lands at least one crap in the crapper a day, he gets something small, but meaningful, etc.

our potty training was successful but by no means magical -- it took time, patience, and some higher-plane-funky-balance-of pushing him vs not pushing him, positive reinforcement vs wanting to pinch him, j/k

  • We're hopefully coming to the end of this with DD. We had a sticker chart with small rewards while PTing but apparently that wasn't enough to convince her to poop on the potty. In a fit of desperation, I told her she could get a pet fish if she started pooping on the potty and the past three days she's been all gung ho. I just had to find that motivator.

DS2 is almost 3.5 and still won't poop on the potty but is a pro at peeing.  I talked to pedi about it and she said no big deal, totally normal and age appropriate.  Sooooo......I'm just kinda letting it go for now.  He goes and puts his pull up on when he has to go.  He's afraid to use the potty- floor or big.  I know he wont' go to kindergarten pooping in a pull up.  He is sooo very head strong and stubborn, he has only been consistently peeing on the potty and no accidents for a little over a month.  he does everything at his own pace, and I know one of these days he will poop when ready.  I'm just terrified of him becoming constipated and impacted- I know that this is what will happen if I push him before he's ready.

  • We are in the same place with DS1.  Its frustrating because he started the PTing process going poop on the potty really well better than peeing; however he stopped pooping on the potty and now needs no help peeing. There was a week where he was completely PTed and back out...I have tried candy (which he loves), it only worked once! He did manage to poop on the potty while we were at the dentist today.

  • For a few months after dd was toilet trained for pee, she would demand a diaper for poop.  So that's what we did.  She would wear underpants all day and when she wanted to poop I would give her a diaper.  I tried to insist she poop in the bathroom, but that didn't work.  We also offered all kinds of bribes, but that didn't work either.  One day I could get her a diaper (because I was nursing) and told her she had to wait or poop in the toilet.  So she did.  Of course she remembered all the bribes and demanding ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, barbies, etc!  She settled for just ice cream.
  • I have to laugh at the pp who said her DD "demanded" a diaper to poop.  Once I took off the diaper I never ever put it back on.  Poop and pee in the potty or in the pants...those were the choices.  Didn't feel that great in the pants...only happened twice.  I had a candy reward system.  Brachs chocolate stars...one for pee two for poop.  By the time the package of stars were gone they were trained (both my sons and daughters...although the boys were 2 1/2 when I started and the girls were 2).  They were literally "trained" in 3-4 days.  BTW...I never bought any more candy...just said I'd have to get some more at the grocery store (which never happened of course).
