nursing on only one side per feeding?

my DD is a great eater, except she peeters out before I can get her to nurse on both sides! I think i have tried almost everything to keep her awake.... is is ok to nurse only one side per feeding?

 she is 6 days old....

  • I did that. The pedi just told me to make sure to switch sides each feeding.

This is what I do, I've read that baby gets more hindmilk that way (which is richer and helps them stay full longer)

This. I just have to remember to do the opposite side each feeding.

  • My pedi told me to do this beginning at 1 week because my nipples were SO sore.  It gave each nipple longer to heal in between feedings and LO is completely satisfied with one side. I've been doing it ever since.

  • LC told me to nurse on one side unless he is eating for longer than 20 minutes to make sure baby is getting enough hindmilk.

I switch him when I can tell my boob is empty because DS eats about 5oz's per feeding and I have to nurse on both sides to get that much.

Nursing on one side is A OKAY! :)

  • I only nurse on one side each feeding.
  • I do this also. I wear a rubber bracelet and switch it after feeding so I can remember which side to feed! Especially helpful in the middle of the night!
  • Yep I think it is fine.  Both of my lo's have nursed this way and haven't had any issues.
  • We do only 1 side as well.  The Pedi at first was not very happy about it and tried to get me to go to a lactating consultant.  But he was gaining weight fabulously so she got over it.

Some babies just dont need to.  Mine seems to be a good eater and gaining weight and the hind milk is better and this way he actually gets it.
