Multiples

6 month appointment

Everything went pretty much as expected.

James: 20lb5oz (89%) and 25in(6%)
Emma: 15lb10oz(41%) and 24 1/2 in(9%)

Both are very health and the doctor is pleased.  She said to keep James on the same diet as he is now.  We can start adding soft foods like bananas and switch them to sippy cups.

James needs to go to for a consult for his head.  He most likely will need a helmet and maybe physical therapy for his neck.

Emma is going to have a hip xray this week.  They keep an eye on breech babies for hip issues and because she is not standing or rolling like James, the doctor felt it was best to get it done to see if there are any issues.

  • That's great!!  If you don't mind me asking about James head... when you say that is it b/c his head is alittle flat?  Joseph has a flat back on one side of his head when he was born & I mentioned it to their doctor at their 2 months appt & she mentioned something about Tortatilis (sp?) and to make him start looking at things from his left side b/c he favors his right side and that's causing the flat spot & she mentioned disfiguration and helmets if it doesn't correct.  So far it's seems like it's working and I try to keep him off of his back of his head during the day as much as I can.  I was just wondering if you are talking about something similar with James.

Yes it sounds similar.  He hasn't been fully diagnosed, but based on what our pedi said, he has a moderate to severe case of placiocephaly.  It was pretty severe at 4 months, but we have been working with him to keep him off the flat side of his head.  We had hoped that since he has been upright most of the time, that it would round out again.  We have made some progress, but it looks like it is going to take a DOC Band or helmet to help round it out.  The pedi mentioned the physical therapy for his neck and I think that has to do with Tortalilis.

  • Congrats on a good appointment! Wow, your DS is so big!
And that's interesting about the hip u/s. One of my babies was breech but he never had a hip u/s. Not sure why.
