IVF is our only option

Hello ladies, I'm back from vacation. I hope you all had a nice week.

Last week, I got a VM from my RE, and she said that DH's b/w came back, and it showed that he has Translocation - which is essentially switching of chromosomes during conception. This leads to m/c's and if a baby were to make it, it would have sever defects or retardation. DH is devastated - he started Googling last night, and blaming himself for my m/c's.

The RE said that we could do IVF and should have good success. I have a call into her office and I'm still waiting to hear back from her.

I'm so sorry you had to get this news.  IVF is a good option for a couple where translocation is an issue.  However, I would recommend talking more with your doctor, and a genetic counselor, regarding whether IVF is truly the only option.  With a balanced translocation, there is always the chance you can go on to have a healthy pregnancy without IVF; the risk is "just" that you may have more losses before that happens.  Best of luck to you as you process all of this.

I have a balanced translocation and a healthy DD. Got ku with her our second month trying and no issues (so it is possible). We didn't find out about the translocation until the third loss trying for #2. DD is either normal or a balanced translocation too.

What is his translocation? I'm 7/13.

For other options... you could do IUI with doner sperm or try natural but have a CVS or Amnio. For us it was natural with CVS/amnio or IVF (with PGD).

I did a lot of research on translocations when our doctor suggested against genetic testing.  There is a lot of hope, I think, with a good and capable doctor.
