I got two little gems from my sister's friend who has 2 boys 20m apart.
1. If they are both crying and really need you, go to LO #1. The newborn will forget, and your toddler's needs are more advanced and nuanced to require your attention.
2. You will often be telling your toddler "I need to do X for baby right now" but you should also explain to baby "I need to do X for toddler right now" Of course baby won't understand, but it makes a point that you don't always choose baby.
Any other tips from moms who are in this?!

My Blog
get a sling or other type of carrier. I use mine daily.
Work with DD1 before baby comes to play solo for a bit (within her ability). Make her in to a helper "can you be a big girl, and get mommy a diaper for baby?"
Lame, but we collected little toys (think happy meal toys) for DS1, and when someone would come over and make a fuss over new baby, we would have a "new toy" for him to play with.
Pack more in the diaper bag than you ever think you will need! My most difficult activity with my toddler has been Dr. Appointments. Mine of DS2. I make sure to keep snacks, and even GASP! Juice boxes with me for such occasions!
