Re: how did you tell your family?

  • We told DH's family by giving his mom a gift bag with a baby onsie inside. It said "New Baby On The Block"

I made t-shirts for my dog that said "I'm going to be a big sister" and "You're going to be an uncle"
  • We're flying out to surprise DH's parents and will tell them then. We always do christmas with his family and tend to gather at a resort/vacation location vs. someone's house. So we'll suggest a new possible location - our area - since the baby is due then.

We're picking my parents up at the airport in a few weeks when they return from Europe. We'll have a big sign/balloons saying, "Welcome home Grandma and Grandpa" - not terribly original but hey, neither are we.

We've only had a chance to tell 1/4 of our immediate family but we did it yesterday.  I showed my almost 7 year old niece the u/s pic and I asked her if she knew what it was.  She said no, and I told her to go ask Grammee (my mom) what it was, so she walked over and asked her.  Everyone was excited.  It was cute.

Then everyone told her I was going to have a baby and she looked at the u/s pic and said "small baby"

  • We made a video that had the announcement in it.

We told them when I was just over 10 weeks.

  • We told yesterday since we had our familes (parents and siblings) over for Mother's Day bruch.  We were early, and were originally thinking of waiting until I was out of the 1st tri, but we couldn't! I also wanted to tell people when it would be a complete shock, not after weeks of me not drinking at GTG's and them getting suspicious.

After we ate, everyone was still sitting around the dining room table, so DH and I took our dog upstairs and threw on a "I'm going to be a big sister" t-shirt.  We told her to stay at the top of the stairs (she listens well, thankfully), and we went down.  Once we were down, we whistled for her.  She paraded through the room and shocked the heck out of everyone!!

We were also thinking of having our niece (4) and two nephews (5 and 6) go whisper to their moms (my SIL's) and my mom and MIL that "Auntie Lynn has a baby in her belly," but we went with the dog idea.

  • This is our 4th, so we are planning to make sure that our news comes off as the good news it is to us!  I'm embroidering t-shirts for the older siblings.  The youngest's will read, "The BIG BROTHER," the next up will be, "The BIGGER SISTER," and then our oldest's will say, "The BIGGEST BROTHER."   I'm optimistic that this will be a fun way to tell them!

She wore this shirt to mother's day lunch with the family.

  • Our son is turning 3 next weekend, so at his birthday party we are gonna show a slideshow of him from birth thru 3 years. The last pic of him, is going to be of him holding a sign saying "i'm going to be a big brother!"

Im excited and nervous. Good luck!

  • My due date is Dec 22nd.  When the familiy was over this weekend we had the Advent Box (with one drawer for each of the 4 days leading up to Christmas) up on the mantle.  Of course they were all wondering why it was out in May.  So, my 4 year old told them to open it and look at box 22.  Inside was a picture of the US.

With my first, we had custom fortune cookies made that said "there will soon be a new member of your family" insode and took my in-laws out to PF Changs.  Had the waitress swap them for the real thing.  My in-laws are so clueless that they couldn't even figure it out when they BOTH had the SAME fortune!
