We are flying home with our daughter in July--she'll be 7 months then and I'm already freaking out because we're taking a red eye that leaves Seattle at 11pm. She normally goes down at 8:30 and so we're hoping she sleeps in her car seat until we have to get on the plane. But, I was wondering a couple things--how does security go w/ LO as far as what has to go through the x-ray machine--stroller, car seat, etc.? Also, is your breast pump considered a carry-on? Can you bring nursery water & powder formula, or should I bring premixed liquid formula? Any tips for the flight itself? Thanks!
Re: flying with baby question---security
I was literally JUST going to post something about traveling. I am leaving tomorrow and am very nervous.
What I know about formula is that the FAA states you can bring "reasonable" amounts of liquids such as formula and breastmilk. Rather than bring nursery water, I would just buy bottled water at the airport once you get past security, or just buy the premixed bottles.
I am wearing my baby in a Moby and checking his carseat. I am considering my breast pump as my one personal carry-on item (instead of my purse) and the diaper bag as the second carry-on item.
I am pretty sure all the items such as stroller and carseat will go through xray, but I am not certain.
Good luck! I am sure all will go well when you travel.

The TSA website will be able to answer most if not all of those questions.
As far as the pump, if you're carrying it on the plane- it's a carry on. You should be able to take two- one personal (purse, etc.) and one carry on.
Just curious.... what airlines are you using that you are able to feed during take off and landing? We are flying (Air Canada, which is not the best airline anyway... but the cheapest for where we are flying too.....) and according to their regulations baby has to be against the shoulder during take off and landing. I can put her in her snuggli during the flight, but can't have her in there during take off and landing either. Just curious to know what airlines you can have a baby in the carrier for or feeding during take off and landings.

I just flew a couple of weeks ago with just DS and I and it was such a breeze! I filled my bottles up with formula and stuck them in an ice pack and all I had to do was take them out to get scanned. The car seat and stroller have to go through the X ray machine and you will just walk with your LO through. The security people were SO nice and they even helped me break down the stroller and get everything through.
Make sure to feed your baby at take off and landing because it will help their ears pop. I don't know what an airline wouldn't allow you to do that but every plane I have been on I have been able to do so.
EDIT: To answer the question of the PP you aren't supposed to have the baby in a carrier during take off and landing but you can feed LO while they are out of it during take off and landing.
I suppose if you are breastfeeding and the baby has to eat they will let you, but the airline clearly states on their website that the baby "has to be upright against your shoulder" during take off and landings. I have had to switch to formula recently so I won't be able to feed during take off and landings according to the website. Luckily my baby take a soother, so she will be able to suck to make her ears pop, but I have honestly never heard of, or seen, a baby feed during take off and landings and I have flown a lot on a lot of different airlines. Every baby has been upright against the shoulder. My sister has never been allowed to feed during take off and landings either, and she is able to breastfeed. I just find it interesting since this is the first place that I have ever heard of nursing during take off and landing

Sorry about the blank post. I meant to add that Delta and United allow you to feed during takeoff and landing. I think Frontier, too.
That's weird that United would allow it because they are the affiliated with Air Canada.....
