can't donate cord blood with multiples :-(

I was so bummed to find out that with multiples, you can't donate cord blood. I called our local bank and then also a national private one and both said that there is a risk of cross blood contamination between the two cords, and that could cause graft vs. host disease in the recipients. What a bummer!

I would have been able to b/c of 2 placenta.  But I chose not to b/c I wanted to donate, not bank and our hospital didn't participate

I was never told that, but my OB did tell me in the operating room that we couldn't donate because the girls were preemies.

Our hospital doesn't let you donate for multiples either.  I was disappointed too!

i was told we couldn't donate b/c they don't get enough from twins to make it worth it (this is what the company told me).  I donated Griffin's at least.

I have two placenta's as well and they still said no all because of the possibility of cross contamination of the blood.

We saved ours from both boys and got plenty. It was through Cord Blood Registry. They even gave us a discount for multiples.

we donated the boys' and they were super happy to have them. they had their own placentas but they never asked me that when we were setting up the donation. hmmmmmm.

We did and got twicE the amount needed. No one even remotely Questioned it.
