S/O to C/S recovery ?

The post below just reminded me of this, so I need to ask!  I took a childbirth class when I was pg with DS.  The instructor said that after a c/s you should only plan on doing steps once a day so it is important to have everything you need on your main living floor.  Is that true??

Ideally I hope to deliver these babies vaginally, but I know that that all depends on the babies.  My issue...our ONLY bathroom is on the second floor of our house and our kitchen is on the first floor!  Is this going to be a logistical nightmare?

Re: S/O to C/S recovery ?

  • I had a c/s with DD and had no problem with steps by the time I went home.  I went up them like 3-4 times a day.
  • I went up and down the steps many times a day. It didn't feel great but it was fine. With one baby that is realistic, but with two (and a big one too!) it is too difficult. I think the more you move around the better anyway,

  • By the time I went home, I was climbing the stairs multiple times a day without any problem at all.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I had a c/s and was able to do steps by the time I got home, which was 4 days after.  It was harder getting up out of bed than to do steps.
  • my only bathroom is on the 2nd floor- i had NO problems going up and down them.  Acutally the first day we came home (i was in the hospital 4 nights) I got up to go to the bathroom- was 1/2 way up the stairs when i remembered I should be going slow --- b/c I felt fine doing it- i didn't even think about it.... so i slowed down- but only b/c i was told I should -- not b/c it hurt or anything.

i did them multiple times a day - no issues.

  • I did them several times per day without any problems.
  • I go up and down the stairs too with no issues. We do however have a big baby changing station on the main floor too, so we're not actually running babies up the stairs to change their diapers.
  • I had a really bad c-section experience (ended up with a few blood transfusions and was too weak to get out of the hospital bed for at least 3-4 days) but I still was able to climb stairs by the time I got home.  I was still weak and tired but could do it.  My doctor told me I wasn't limited in the amount of times I went up and down.  Getting in and out of bed was way harder for me!

  • My nurse said not to do stairs at all, and the information the hospital sent home with me said to limit stairs to twice a day. Our only stairs are to the basement and I just didn't go down there for the first two weeks, which was no big deal.  I'd plan to have as much on one floor as possible, but there's only so much you can do.

  • Great question- thanks!

Our only bathroom is on the second floor also, so I was concerned about this.
