He's got an ear infection with a high fever. He is beyond miserable and so am I! He panics whenever I try to give him fever reducer med. I'm not one who thinks they need constant meds but I feel so bad for him. He'll drink water and a little juice but hasn't eaten in 24 hours. Is this OK? I feel like if the fever comes down at least for a while he will eat a little. He was at the dr. yesterday and they gave me a prescription for the ear infection. I just started it today by putting it in his juice, he seems to like the taste but didn't drink it all. I tried putting the Tylenol in his juice and he wouldn't drink it. So strange. I'm just extra sensitive because I'm 38 weeks preg and DH is at work today. Should I just forget the tylenol?
Re: My 3 year old refuses meds
A high fever?
I'd make him take it. Even ooshy gooshy Dr Sears says that when it comes to giving children meds they need, sometimes we just have to get the job done. It sounds cruel, but get your DH (or anyone) to hold him while you squirt it into his cheek. He'll freak out... but it's pretty important. Especially the ear infection meds -- he needs to take it all. And having a super high fever can be scary.
Better to have him miserable for a few minutes while you get the meds into him than to be horribly ill and in pain.
