I saw a few posts back that someone was asking about giving LOs vitamins when they're sick to boost the immune system, and it got me thinking. Fay has had three colds AND RSV all in the last six months. And I know we're supposedly exiting cold season, but a lot of my mom friends have LOs with colds at the moment, so I wanted to post some things I found to be helpful. I know you can find this all on the internet, but A. you never really know what actually works, and all of this worked for us, and B. it's nice to have it all in one place.
For Fay, we've done the following:
Warm, low-sodium chicken broth in a bottle. It soothed Fay's sore throat enough that she would finally take some formula. (It was funny; we had LSCB in one bottle and formula in another and just switched her back and forth. :P)
Peppermint oil-- just a teeeeny dot on the chest or back of the neck. (You can dilute it with olive oil if you want, but you don't HAVE to.) Or you can put a tiny bit of it in a vaporizer. It does the job of Vicks without the downside.
Oregano in essential oil form, diluted with olive oil. It's really strong, so you have to be careful with it. Don't put it on LOs face; just chest, neck, or feet. It's an immune system booster, apparently.
(You can get the peppermint and oregano oils at a natural grocery store.)
Anyway, I hope that's helpful. And to all the mamas with sick LOs, I hope they get better soon!
