2nd Trimester

Help! Thought it was a pimple but it turned into a HUGE boil!!

I'm a few days shy of 18 weeks. About 3 weeks ago, I had what I thought was a pimple on my stomach and after a few days, it didn't go away; it got MUCH bigger. I'm talking the size of a golf ball, if not bigger. I went to the ER and it "wasn't ready yet" so they did nothing. The next day, it drained on its own. My problem is, it's back and bigger than before. Talk about extreme pain! I hate to go to the doctors or even the ER yet again, but it's getting worse as each day goes by. I'm so scared it's going to cause an infection under my skin. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do about it? Please help! I'm extremely worried!!

  • I'm sorry you're going through that. I don't have any experience with boils but I hope it goes away soon. It sounds like you're receiving good medical care. Stay positive!

  • If you're as scared and worried as you say, then just go ahead and make an appointment.  I don't see how going to the doctor would bother you if it gets worse everyday.
  • You will want to go on into the doctor as son as they can fit you in. Because if it is returning then the sac wasn't expressed and it will jsut keep filling back up.

whatever you do don't go look at youtube for boils/pimples unless you have a very strong stomach!

Keep watch for infection like heat, spreading rash, fever. You probably have an abcess. If it gets worse or you' re really worried then go to minor emergency or call the on call physician at your ob. If you make it to Monday call the ob. A surgeon could drain and treat you in the office. Don't feel silly about going in if you're concerned. Would infections and staph are not to be ignored. Good luck.
  • If I were you I'd go to the ER. I had a very similar thing happen to me and it ended up being staph.

  • Let the doc do it. It is more than likely a staph infection :( but lancing and proper draining and some antibiotics should knock it out.
  • Make an appointment with your physician at the very least, and if it appears that the abcess itself and the surrounding skin is turning pink or streaking, go to the ER. It could be a staph infection, and should be drained by a physician. They will start you on a course of antibiotics and may also give you pain relievers. It is also concerning because it can be an indication of having diabetes. Not trying to scare you, just saying it's not something to just leave untreated.

  • I have a skin condition that causes me to get them all the time, especially under my arms and on my bikini line. First let me say how sorry I am, they hurt sooooo bad. That being said you should probably go to the doc. I can usually drain mine on my own if I use a heating pad on it first, but they can just fill up again and then you are at a higher risk of infection. I would call the doc, you aren't being a baby at all, I know how miserable they are!

Me too.. they were even talking possible MRSA when I had this happen.  It's been over a year since it happened but they gave me antibiotics because they couldn't drain it at the time because it wasn't "ready" and they didn't want to make it worse.  Call because you can get really sick from it.

  • Thanks for the tips everyone! I really appreciate it. I don't think I'd be as worried and/or paranoid if this wasn't my first baby. I get paranoid over everything. I have been to the doctors more times than I can count. I spent the first 3 months of my pregnancy bleeding. Talk about scary!! I actually have an appointment on Tuesday, so I'm going to hold off until then. It's more under my skin than it is on the outside. Thanks again everyone!
