So yesterday I had blood taken due to spotting. My HCG levels and prog. levels were good she said. HCG in the 7000 range and 16.5 for prog. They wanted to do an internal ultrasound today.
The tech was weird..literally said nothing which made me very nervous. DH thinkgs it is because they can't. I don't know.
When the doctor came in she told me that I am O negative and would need a shot every 12 wks. I really can't put into words why..but I get it. It sounds like Rogaine..maybe you all know. MAN DID IT HURT! Like worst shot ever.
Going forward I go back in a week for another ultrasound. I guess I can relax now but I am sure it will stay on my mind.
I appreciate your feedback and thoughts.
Re: Update from blood test after spotting
I think it's called Rho-gam. I think it's because the - bloodtype can cause you to make antibodies against your little one if they have O+. My mother had to get it because she is O- and I am O+, but I really don't know the exact scientific explanation.
Hooray for the good HCG and Prog. levels.
Most women get Rhogam at 26 weeks if they are Rh-, but if you are bleeding at all before that, they will give you a shot then.
You can the baby will have to get it again after they are born IF the baby has a positive blood type. It's no big deal, many many women are Rh-. I am, and everything was fine last time.
I have my first us on Monday and am hoping to hear the hb then, but from what I've read on this board you shouldn't be worried about not hearing a hb before 7 weeks. Since you're 5 weeks, I think it's perfectly normal.
Congrats on your good levels!
