Anyone here have low progesterone while pregnant??

Hello ladies!  My name is Carrie, my DH and I got our BFP a little over a week ago!  Last weekend I had some light spotting so I went in for bloodwork monday and wednesday.  My HCG levles didn't double in 48 hours but they did increase by 60% which my doctor said is a normal rise.  The thing that concerns me though is my progesterone level which was at 6.5, which I know is really low.  My doctor will not put me on any progesterone supplements and warned me there is a chance I will miscarry b/c of this but basically said the supplements will not do anything for me.  Have any of you had experience with low progesterone?  If so, and you had a proactive doctor, would you mind telling me your OBs name?  I don't even know where to start...but at this point I seriously feel like I'm just waiting for a m/c and it's a horrible feeling.

 Thanks for your help!

Re: Anyone here have low progesterone while pregnant??

  • Hi there.

I went through something similar in January 2009. My progesterone was only at 6 & my doctor sent me for an ultrasound right away before talking about progesterone supplements. Unfortunetly, the ultrasound showed a blighted ovum.

I'm hoping for a different outcome for you. I know the feeling you have right now. Hopefully your doctor will schedule an ultrasound to see about the growth.

    Take care, hun.

  • Have they done an u/s to confirm a viable pg yet like pp suggested?

Progesterone won't 'save' a pregnancy, but can only support one.  If your doc feels that there could be other issues going on, he may not want to muddy the waters.  However, if you are not feeling like you can trust your doc, then you need to move on to someone else, because that feeling will never fully go away.

I see Dr. Lisa Baker at OGI (Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility), they have offices in Maple Grove, Edina and Robbinsdale.  I have found her to be fantastic on all accounts, and very proactive.  DH and I experienced an unexplained m/c this past June.  Typically for your first m/c (if it's early) insurance won't cover much testing to try to figure out why.  Dr. Baker did do some anatomical testing of my uterus structure etc., but said that when I did get our next BFP she would immediately start us on baby aspirin and progesterone suppositories.  It's done the trick, because now I"m almost 33 weeks pg with twins, which we conceived spontaneously!  If you have any questions about Dr. Baker I'd be happy to answer them - feel free to send me a PM.

Best wishes to you, early on is such a stressful time, but just remember to try to relax as best you can, and take really good care of yourself!  Good luck!
