RP: Clindamycin while breastfeeding???

Is this ok to take while I am breastfeeding. I am finding conflicting opinions about it online and am already trying to go dairy free as LO is having problems, so I will have a hard time distingushing between what might be a reaction to the milk proteins and what could be a reaction to the antibiotics! Help! Oh it is for mastitis (both breasts) GRRRR! Thanks ladies!

Re: RP: Clindamycin while breastfeeding???

  • Clindamycin has been reported to appear in breast milk in the range of 0.7 to 3.8 mcg/mL.1

The American Academy of Pediatrics classifies clindamycin as compatible with breast-feeding.3

  • i just had my GBS test and am allergic to penicillin so was asking if it comes back positive what they use instead.  they send the culture with request for med sensitivities but my midwife said that most often they use clindamyacin or some other erythromycin form, so i would guess from that it is probably okay for bfing since it's given to you right before birth/bfing for the first time.

    sorry not a solid answer
