anyone use Mylanta for diaper rash?

DS has a bad one with really red raised bumps all over his butt. I got some regular mylanta today and was going to try it out. So just dab on his backside, let dry and do I still put diaper rash creme on too? How long before you saw results using mylanta?

Re: anyone use Mylanta for diaper rash?

  • Are they tiny little red bumps?  It might be a yeast rash that needs an anti-fungal cream like lotrimin or Nystatin.

I have used Mylanta before and I put cornstarch on top to keep it dry.  My kid always has terrible diaper rashes.  Good luck!

  • I usually just dab it on with a cotton ball, but you can also mix it with an equal part of aquaphor to make it more spreadable. Use an electric mixer or just put it in a ziplock bag and squish it until it's combined.

results: my dr once gave her some nystatin for an itchy rash, but it didn't do anything. The mylanta cleared it right up. A while back she had the worst looking one I'd seen after I tried going back to cloth at night. One day of mylanta/aquaphor and it was all gone.

  • cornstarch and mylanta. she had a bad one (raw spots, i thought it would start bleeding). i put it on at bedtime and it was noticeably clearer by the morning and gone within a few days. I really recommend it.

  • pedi recommended this once when DS had a SUPER bad rash.  I noticed a difference overnight, but it took a couple of days to totally clear up.  I also used balmex.
