1st Trimester

The true/actual length of pregnancy

A poster from 2nd Tri board posted this earlier and I figured I would share it with everyoneSmile

Actual length of gestation is 10 lunar months.  A lunar month, defined by the cycles of the moon, is 29.5 days.  Which means that the actual length should be around 42 weeks, not 40.  Divide 42 into 3 trimesters, and each trimester is 14 weeks.  So anytime before that is still first trimester, and third doesn't start until after week 28.

I may be wrong here (and if I am I plead pregnancy brain), but would the other 2 weeks come from the math error in calculation because someone, when calculating the months, used 31 days for each month of pregnancy?

And because, obviously some months have LESS than 31 days, it becomes 40 weeks?

Just because another bumpie said it doesn't mean it's correct info and that you should spread it across all the tri boards as the "end all" answer.

The two weeks come from the fact that some women don't go into labor up to 14 days after their due date. Most OBs will induce after 14 days past. It's 40 weeks because it's the average.

No, I have to come back to this, because it's just SO bloody stupid.  Are you actually suggesting that pregnancy is 42 weeks long?  Because even with the 40 week length, two of those weeks aren't real.

Or are weeks shorter in the lunar calendar, too?  Please tell me how many days are in a lunar week, because this whole thing is just the dumbest sh!t ever.

Now, maybe it's just because I live in a country where Gregorian calendars are found on the shelves, rather than lunar ones, but I've never met a single idiot in real life who actually believes that their pregnancy is 10 months long.  The length of time between your ovulation date and EDD is nine months and one week.

    This is not complicated.

    Yes

Okay seriously. Enough with all the 1st tri is so mean bs. I lurk all over the place and guess what I've found? On every board there are some sweethearts, some a-holes, and some that are both depending on what they're responding to...it's not just this board. I'm a bit of a b*tch myself sometimes and I don't think that's going to change just because I'm clicking a different link to go post somewhere.

    Rant finished.

WTFever, I'm schlepping my virual behind to the 2nd tri boards when my 1st tri is over. After 13 weeks.

Am I the only one who feels like this is a petty little "I'm more pregnant than you, so here's the real deal" snub? Maybe it's just the hormones... I'm pregnant enough to be hormonal, right?
